Honor recognizes environmentally
friendly el: Kitchen cabinetry line
WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Safe Building Solutions has been honored for its role in developing a new line of kitchen cabinets that foster more healthful living conditions and that are manufactured through environmentally sustainable practices.
The cabinetry earned the company a 2007 IQ (Innovation Quotient) award, presented by Small Business Times of Milwaukee. The award will be presented at a May 2 luncheon during the paper’s Business and Technology Expo at the Wisconsin State Fair Park.
The awards recognize innovation in southeastern Wisconsin companies and nonprofit organizations, and the economic impacts of those innovations.

“Homeowners in North America increasingly want to ensure their living environments are healthful and, at the same time, are made with environmentally sustainable practices,” said Andrew Pace, founder and owner of Safe Building Solutions. He responded to that demand by partnering in the creation and release of a new line of kitchen cabinetry, the “el: Kitchen” line.
Pace collaborated on the line with Jill Salisbury, founder of Environmental Language furniture of Chicago. “Environmental Language (el) has a stellar reputation for design and fabrication of ‘eco-chic’ furniture, using environmentally preferred materials and finishes,” Pace said.
Safe Building Solutions provides raw material sourcing for the cabinetry line, which includes FSC-certified woods, recycled plastics and low emitting stains and finishes. Safe Building Solutions also distributes the el: Kitchen line to green-focused and health-conscious design/build companies throughout North America.
The cabinet boxes are made with formaldehyde-free plywood with FSC-certified veneer. That material is compliant with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.

Unlike common kitchen cabinetry, the el: Kitchen finishes are low-toxin and do not outgas, thus contributing to more healthful indoor air quality.
The el: Kitchen line is available in three types of woods for the door styles:
1) Bamboo that offers a very exotic grain and texture while being a readily renewable material.
2) European beech hardwood harvested in Germany where sustained utilization of the forests has been the standard for more than 200 years. European beech is the most available and accessible hardwood in the world.
3) Rift cut oak, which comes form a local supplier who takes trees down that have to come down for development purposes. The trees, which would otherwise be chipped and put into the waste stream, are kiln dried and turned into furniture-grade lumber.
Safe Building Solutions sells an extensive line of safe, high-quality green building products to homeowners engaged in remodeling or new construction. The products create more healthful living environments by emitting far lower levels of residual chemicals than produced by standard building products. The company, founded in 2000, has retail and distribution operations on Waukesha’s southwest side, just off Highway 59 at W292S4498 Hillside Road.
